A Quick Video Look at Alzheimer's Disease

Posted: Mar. 31, 2008

Award winning, national-best selling author David Shenk takes a unique look at Alzheimer’s through a series of four very-short animated films aimed at increasing the understanding of Alzheimer's disease. Cure Alzheimer’s Fund Dr. Rudy Tanzi served in an advisory role to help produce these films. They can be accessed and downloaded at the Web site. The films are free for non-commercial use by anyone at anytime.

Narrated by actor and Alzheimer’s activist David Hyde Pierce, each film focuses on a specific issue about Alzheimer’s in hopes of reducing the stigma, improving care, and helping to strengthen the public fight against the disease.

The first film, “What is Alzheimer’s Disease,” provides an easy-to-understand scientific look at how Alzheimer’s affects the brain and the toll it takes on the human body. The second one, “An Urgent Epidemic,” focuses on the growing number of people who have Alzheimer’s and at risk for developing the disease and its impact on our nation and world. The third film, “The Race to the Cure,” looks at the tremendous breakthroughs made in research and the importance of continued support to better understand and find a cure for the disease. The final film, “A Message for Patients and Their Families,” offers important advice to those diagnosed with the disease and their families.

Serving on the advisory board with Dr. Tanzi were Naomi S. Boak, Dr. Steven T. DeKosky, M.D., and Dr. Geri R. Hall, Ph. D. The films were animated by Barcelona filmmaker and illustrator Jossie Malis and the music was produced by Kriedler.
