Known Alzheimer's disease genes account for only 30% of genetic activity of the disease. With 70% of the genetic component of Alzheimer's unknown, not even the best efforts can develop effective therapies to slow, stop or reverse the disease. Cure Alzheimer's Fund is going to the heart of this problem with the Alzheimer's Genome Project Intiative.

Photo of Dr. John S. LazoJohn S. Lazo, Ph.D. is a professor and chair in the department of pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine: Co-director of the molecular therapeutics/drug discovery program at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

Dr. Lazo received his doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Michigan and completed postdoctoral training at Yale University. In 2003, Dr. Lazo was appointed chair of the Extramural Grants Council at the American Cancer Society. As chair, he leads a multidisciplinary panel of midlevel and senior scientists to determine ACS funding for investigator-led projects taking place at leading cancer centers across the country.
