What is Alzheimer's Disease?

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia, was “discovered” one hundred years ago in Bavaria by Dr. Alois Alzheimer. It is a progressive and fatal disease.

How many Alzheimer's disease genes have been identified?
|
|
Known Alzheimer's disease genes account for only 30% of genetic activity of the disease. With 70% of the genetic component of Alzheimer's unknown, not even the best efforts can develop effective therapies to slow, stop or reverse the disease. Cure Alzheimer's Fund is going to the heart of this problem with the Alzheimer's Genome Project™ Initiative.

Is the Foundation a nonprofit organization?

Yes. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designated by the Internal Revenue Code with federal tax ID #52-2396428.

Do you have chapter organizations?

No. Cure Alzheimer's Fund is headquartered in Wellesley Hills, MA with an additional office in Pittsburgh, PA. Our research and fundraising efforts, however, take place across the country and internationally.

How much money has the Foundation given to research so far?

To date, we have funded almost $16 million in research, either directly or through partnerships.

How much of the money donated actually goes to research?
|
|
100% of all donations support research. The administrative costs of Cure Alzheimer's Fund are underwritten by the organization’s founders.

How can I apply for a grant?

In general, we do not accept unsolicited proposals. With our limited resources, we try to keep the focus on a narrow range of research as described in our Research Roadmap. For further details, please visit the “Grant Inquiries” section on our web site.

What is a corporate matching gift and how can I make one?
|

Many corporations have matching gift programs and will match your donation to a charitable organization. It's an easy way to increase your personal contributions to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. Talk to your human resources representative to find out if your company has such a program and how you can participate.

Can I raise money for the Foundation?

Yes. Please visit the “Other Ways to Help’ section on our website to learn more. We are grateful for the support of those across the country who raise money for us through race sponsorships, wedding favors, bake sales, tennis tournaments, and other creative events and activities.

Can I volunteer?

Because we have small offices, it is impossible to accommodate all the enthusiastic people who want to give their time to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s.
